going green

Ingredients:

  • 2 kiwis
  • 1 apple
  • some pineapple
  • sugarless green tea
  • ice
3/5 stars

This isn't going in a greatest hits smoothie recipe book, but it sure gets the job done. I was worried about the bitterness of the green tea, but the fruit was sweet enough to make for a good drink. I'm not sure if I'm going to make this smoothie again, or if I'm going to experiment with green tea again. It was alright, anyway.

chocolate milk

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • lots of pineapple
  • 1 tbsp oatmeal
  • chocolate milk
  • ice
4/5 stars

Chocolate and banana are two flavors that are born for each other. The pineapple, despite the amount I put in, was really subtle and didn't add much to the taste. Next time I'm going to add less chocolate milk to allow the pineapple to do its work, and give the smoothie an overall thicker, creamy texture.

plain

Ingredients:

  • peeled grapes
  • lots of pineapple
  • 1 kiwi
  • plain yogurt
  • ice
4/5 stars

I'm on the fence about plain yogurt, as it was an accident that I bought it. There is something to be said about how good this was compared to how simple it is. The yogurt dulled the sourness of the kiwi and pineapple without taking away from its flavor. More plain yogurt smoothies to come.

grapples

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples
  • 1 kiwi
  • grape juice
  • 1 tbsp fruit milk powder
  • ice
2/5 stars

I decided today that no smoothie ever needs 2 apples. I also realized that the smoothies I make that contain juice from a bottle are only mediocre. This wasn't a bad drink, it just tasted like I was eating apples while drinking grape juice.

awesome

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • lots of pineapple
  • strawberry yogurt
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp fruit milk powder
  • ice
5/5 stars

There was a really great balance of flavor in this. I decided to keep it simple with a relatively small variety of fruit and just add small things to bring out the flavor. It all worked.

apple ice cream

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples
  • 1 ice cream bar (vanilla and peanut flavor, chocolate shell)
  • strawberry yogurt
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp oatmeal
  • ice
2/5 stars

Not even close to being as good as its banana counterpart. It was way too sweet, and even with 2 apples, it wasn't enough to dilute the sweetness and flavor of the chocolate the way a banana could. I won't combine these ingredients like this again, and maybe the ice cream was only a 1 time treat because it was different from the otherwise fruity, healthy norm.

ice cream

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 ice cream bar (vanilla and peanut flavor, chocolate shell)
  • strawberry yogurt
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
5/5 stars

I don't normally eat ice cream, but I found it in the freezer and gave it a whirl and decided I might need to make a habit out of buying ice cream. There were so many good things happening in this smoothie that I didn't even make it out of the kitchen with the cup. I have one more of those ice cream bars and I know exactly how I'm going to drink it.

kiwi blue

Ingredients:

  • 2 kiwis
  • 1 banana
  • a generous amount of pineapple
  • blueberry yogurt
  • 1 tbsp oatmeal
  • ice
5/5 stars

This is nearly identical to the Strawberry Kiwi, with the major change of yogurt flavor. I used a lot of yogurt and a lot of pineapple, so the smoothie was really creamy and had almost a tart banana taste to it. I'm looking forward to this one again.

banana berry

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas
  • 2 kiwis
  • strawberry yogurt
  • blueberry yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oatmeal
  • ice
4/5 stars

I couldn't decide whether to add strawberry or blueberry yogurt, so in the end I added both. The flavor didn't blend as well as I would have liked, so the only change I would make is to choose 1 yogurt or the other.

pear

Ingredients:

  • 1 pear
  • 1 banana
  • 1 apple
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • rice milk
  • ice
4/5 stars

This was an experiment with the pear, but it was severely overshadowed by the banana, the peanut butter, and the peanut flavored rice milk. It was definitely good, but not enough pear.

leftovers

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple
  • 1 kiwi
  • 2 tbsp grape juice concentrate syrup
  • orange juice
  • ice
4/5 stars

This was simple, but really filling. It had a really smooth consistency and the apple definitely helped tone down the tangy taste.

blueberry oatmeal

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1 apple
  • blueberry yogurt
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped oatmeal
  • 2 tbsp grape juice concentrate syrup
  • ice
3/5 stars

This is basically the oatmeal but with blueberry instead of strawberry yogurt. There wasn't much flavor beyond the blueberry yogurt, so perhaps next time calls for more fruit or less yogurt. It's a great, nutritious blend, but doesn't jump off the page.

malted

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 apple
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp fruit milk powder
  • malt milk
  • ice
5/5 stars

I think anything with malt milk is an automatic 5/5. Actually, I really enjoyed the banana to apple ratio in this smoothie. I managed to get over 2 cups out of this, so I think a little more peanut butter would have rounded out the flavor even more.

blue bananas

Ingredients:
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 kiwi
  • 3 tbsp finely chopped oatmeal
  • 2 tbsp fruit milk powder
  • blueberry yogurt
  • ice
4/5 stars

There isn't a lot of liquid to this smoothie, which makes it very thick and filling. The kiwi ended up serving a purely nutritional purpose, as the two bananas and blueberry yogurt flavors were very dominating. Next time I might only add 1 banana to see how the kiwi blends with the blueberry flavor.

sweet and sour

Ingredients:

  • 1 apple
  • 2 kiwis
  • a lot of pineapple
  • orange juice
  • 1 tbsp fruit milk powder
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • ice
3/5 stars

This is a deceptive rating because it was a delicious drink, but it needs adjustments. The pineapple added too much texture, which is a problem I can fix by cutting smaller slices. I also used a lot of orange juice in this batch, which practically monopolized the whole drink. I see a lot of potential for these ingredients in different amounts.

nutty

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 3 tbsp finely chopped oatmeal
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • rice milk
  • ice
5/5 stars

I actually almost went back and made a second batch of this immediately after gulping in one breath. This one is a variation of breakfast, and the changes made a big difference, although I think using rice milk and malt milk put them in incomparable categories.

strawberry kiwi

Ingredients:
  • 2 kiwis
  • 1 banana
  • some pineapple
  • strawberry yogurt
  • 1 tbsp fruit milk powder
  • ice
5/5 stars

My rating system is basically based on how fast I drink each smoothie, and almost all 2 cups of this one was gone in 1 swig. This smoothie is a no-brainer, as these ingredients are well-known to go together. I'll be adding oatmeal in the future for extra nutrients.

tropical C

Ingredients:

  • 2 kiwis
  • some pineapple
  • orange juice
  • celery leaves
  • spinach
  • ice
4/5 stars

I just learned that celery leaves have a lot of Vitamin C, and kiwis also have "more vitamin C than an equivalent amount of orange." This smoothie was medium thickness and tangy. All the ingredients complemented each other very well. I'll do it again.

yum

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp oatmeal
  • strawberry yogurt
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1 apple
  • 1 tbsp fruit milk powder
  • ice
4/5 stars

I had dreams about making this smoothie, but it wasn't as perfect as I had imagined. If I hadn't had sky-high expectations, it would probably be a 5/5. Another kiwi might do the trick.

snack

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 apple
  • some spinach
  • some celery leaves
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • rice milk
  • ice
4/5 stars

This was really good but it didn't blow me away. I made it very thick and there was a very strong peanut butter flavor, which was my goal. I'll make it again for sure.

breakfast

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • malt milk
  • ice
5/5 Stars

This is just as good in smoothie form as it looks on paper! It was very thin and easy to drink. Chopping the oatmeal into a powder removed any chunks or texture it might have added. Also, I ran out of peanut butter, so I think this could be even better with another tablespoon. I might be looking at my breakfast regular.

really green

Ingredients:

  • 1 kiwi
  • some pineapple
  • celery
  • celery leaves
  • spinach
  • rice milk
  • ice
4/5

Even though this was a great smoothie, I have a feeling it would have been better with orange juice. I'm definitely going to make it again, but perhaps tinker with a few of the ingredients.

oatmeal

Ingredients:
  • some plain, dry oatmeal
  • 1 banana
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1 apple
  • strawberry yogurt
  • ice
4/5 stars

If I had been able to grind the oatmeal into a finer powder, this would have been 5/5. The oatmeal does provide a nice texture and, of course, extra nutrients.

celery

Ingredients:
  • some celery
  • some celery leaves
  • some peanut butter
  • some orange juice
  • ice
3/5 stars

Not as good as I was hoping. The celery wasn't chopped fine enough and it was really thin. I enjoyed drinking it, but I'm going to change some things to make it even better.

fruity

Ingredients:
  • 1 banana
  • 1 apple
  • 1kiwi
  • some pineapple
  • some orange juice
  • some grape juice (concentrate syrup)
  • ice
5/5 stars

Throw it all in there for a blast of flavor and nutrition. I tried first with 2 kiwis, but it turns out that the kiwi's flavor is really potent and adding a second one masks the flavor of the other fruit.

green

Ingredients:
  • some spinach
  • orange juice
  • 1 apple
  • grape juice (concentrate syrup)
  • ice
4/5 stars

This was actually really good. It was very thin, as it only had 1 piece of fruit. It's quick and easy to blend, and I think I'll be making more of these.

peanut butter

Ingredients:
  • 2 apples
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 cup OJ
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • ice
5/5 stars

Success! The idea was to combine my favorite crunchy snacks into a delicious blend, and it worked. I might go heavier on the peanut butter next time. And maybe less banana to allow the apple flavor to come out more.

potatoes

Ingredients:
  • about half a potato
  • some celery leaves
  • some spinach
  • some orange juice
  • some ice
0/5 stars

This was disgusting. It tasted like dirt. So far the only smoothie that I've had to dump the whole thing down the drain.
